The government must make some serious efforts to tackle emergent and persistent decreases in exports for the next few years, according to former Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak. The global economic problems mean that Thailand’s largest export markets are suffering and cutting down on imports – exchange rates changes do not help either – which means that new markets will be required and real efforts to make Thai products more competitive. The current PADemocrat government has so far shown little understanding of or interest in the true nature of the problems but maybe they will wake up.
