Top Bangkok police investigators have announced that the decapitated head found dangling from the Rama VIII Bridge not only belongs to a headless body found in the river not too far away but the body and, indeed, head are Italian – the basis of their evidence? The body was wearing an Italian brand of trousers. Other police officers are continuing with the suicide theme, observing that it is in fact quite common for the head to be completely severed from the body by a suicide occasioned, presumably, by the bloke leaping over the side of the bridge with a note attached to his head. At least it makes a change from the dreaded ‘foreigner killed after leaping/falling from balcony/room on high level of hotel’ disease.
The red-shirted pro-democracy protestors have reached Government House and are surrounding it right now. There have been a variety of stories recently of military infiltration of the demonstrators, possibly to act as agents provocateurs – there was apparently a physical confrontation in Chiang Mai at the weekend in which red-shirts are alleged to have prevented a pro-gay rights procession taking place.
One of the key demands of the pro-democracy movement is the removal from office of the PAD’s cabinet seat – foreign minister Kasit Piromya who was a prominent supporter of the illegal seizure of the two international airports in December, during which a number of violent crimes were committed. It is possible that Khun Kasit will finally be arrested shortly, the odds are said to be 50:50 [deleted comment here on second thoughts], at which point he will presumably be the second cabinet minister to be thrown out of the month-long government in disgrace.
