News and commentary from Thailand and Southeast Asia. Bird flu, violence in Southern Thailand and continued corruption are current themes in this part of the world. You can also find out about my latest research and publications. Welcome to the Land of Smiles.
I was just blog-surfing and thought I'd see what your journal is about. You have great content, and I like your layout. Your text is a bit small, but otherwise, your blog looks great.
Good morning,
If I had a baht for every salacious story I have heard about Thai Airways, well, I wouldn’t be sitting here writing this stuff, I suppose. Whether any of it is true I have no idea. Most rumours seem very unlikely but then, This Is Thailand and the truth may be stranger than fiction. Anyway, today the whole board has resigned, apparently with a view to letting the government appoint a new one. Since a number of those standing down were junta cronies appointed during the disastrous Surayud regime, we will all be better off as a result (I’m sure they will not starve). There are three issues involved: first, whether to move all flights to
The censure debate starting today could, let us hope, lead to the downfall of PAD ringleader Kasit Piromya, who was given the Foreign Ministry in the shabby dealings that gave Abhisit his birthright of government (We’re Democrats – vote for us because we were born into power). Kasit’s performance as Foreign Minister is such that he would not be missed. The extent to which Abhisit and his cronies had any influence over the deal with the military and the PAD to get into power is not clear and will probably never be revealed. The vote of no confidence will be held on Saturday (assuming there is no chance of the opposition winning otherwise something else might happen instead). It will be interesting to see how much evidence is brought out to support the corruption allegations against Abhisit and his pals.
Speaking of stupid people and pointless wastes of space.
Back tomorrow.
Late schmenalty. Sue them all.
