The US Government, now returned to the reality-based paradigm, has admitted that it has used a secret prison to torture prisoners here in Thailand. Will the Quisling go ahead with prosecuting the anti-democracy movement’s leaders for their crimes? In typical Thai style, there are stories saying both that the charges against the PAD ringleaders will be withdrawn and that they will go ahead. I find it hard to believe that these (alleged) criminals will ever taste prison food given how many other people are walking around free despite committing other heinous acts – now, in the media, there are stories trying to portray people aiming to have past misdeeds put right cast as trouble-makers and vindictive people who should just forget about the whole thing – the same thing is happening in the USA with people who would like to see the Bush administration put to court for at least some of their various actions.
Villagers near the Mat Ta Phut industrial zone appear to have won a victory in their struggle to avoid being poisoned every day of their lives. The region will become a pollution control zone and, consequently, subject to more regulations.
