Democratic Alliance against Dictatorship; Vang Pao Trial; Thais Roast in Dutch Oven (sorry, again)

Good morning,

Politicians are joining together to form a nation-wide campaign to topple the military junta (http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2007/06/07/headlines/headlines_30036229.php). People from across the political spectrum have joined the Democratic Alliance against Dictatorship. Numerous other groups are now emerging after the ban on political activities was lifted. This is an interview with Newin Chidchob (http://www.bangkokpost.com/topstories/topstories.php?id=119273). The snouts in the trough are falling out with each other as the constitution drafters start to throw their toys out of the pram (http://www.bangkokpost.com/News/07Jun2007_news03.php). Their period of power is rapidly evaporating.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declared that Thailand will not permit its land to be used to mount coup attempts against other countries (apart from its own, obviously) (http://etna.mcot.net/query.php?nid=29772). This comes in the wake of the Vang Pao trial in America, where he is accused of attempting to mount an armed coup against the Lao government. New allegations surround a former Wisconsin state governor and a congressperson as being involved, although ‘Hmong icon’ General Vang has denied all of this (http://www.bangkokpost.com/topstories/topstories.php?id=119271). The plot was revealed when the supposed arms dealer who was going to supply all the hardware turned out to be an undercover federal agent.

Thailand went down to the Netherlands at the Rajamangala last night 3-1 (http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2007/06/07/sport/sport_30036233.php). Goals from Rafael van der Vaart, Johnny Heitinga and Jan Hesselink of Vennegoor put the Dutch three up before a late free kick from Tawan Sripan gave the crowd something t oshout about. The Thai team wore a kind of Brazil strip and are now going to a training camp in Germany to prepare for the forthcoming Asian Cup.

Back tomorrow.

Happy birthday, K Yaa.
