Time Running Out for Junta?

Good morning,

Stocks decreased 1.42% yesterday over fears of political turmoil after the junta’s steps to seize assets from the democratically elected prime minister and have started sharply down this morning (http://www.bangkokpost.com/Business/13Jun2007_biz01.php). The CP group is switching more investment overseas, particularly to Vietnam, because of the disastrous management of the country (http://etna.mcot.net/query.php?nid=29894). AIS is contemplating legal action against the Asset Scrutiny Committee, which delivered the junta-ordered defamation (http://www.bangkokpost.com/Business/13Jun2007_biz34.php), as it is alleged, while some of the ASC members are trying to wriggle out of their responsibility (http://www.bangkokpost.com/breaking_news/breakingnews.php?id=119400). General Sonthi ‘the fortune teller doesn’t talk to me’ Boonyaratkalin claims the junta had no influence over the decision (http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2007/06/13/politics/politics_30036737.php). Thousands gathered to demand his resignation once again last night. Some pro-democracy supporters are threatening to set fire to themselves, like Vietnamese monks used to do.

After three teachers were murdered in their classrooms on Monday in Narathiwat, their colleagues have asked for greater security (http://www.bangkokpost.com/topstories/topstories.php?id=119402). Teachers will take their case to ASEAN (http://etna.mcot.net/query.php?nid=29880) and many schools have closed indefinitely until the junta does something to protect them. Another soldier was killed in a bomb blast outside a school (http://www.bangkokpost.com/breaking_news/breakingnews.php?id=119413). The junta and its cabinet have decided to change some policies in respect to dealing with the trouble, but did not bother to say what they were (http://etna.mcot.net/query.php?nid=29889).

Astrologer Varin Buaviratlert, often consulted apparently by chief jackboots Sonthi, says he does not favour one person over another and does not take part in publicity stunts (http://www.bangkokpost.com/News/13Jun2007_news08.php).
