I was busy working but apparently the nation was convulsed with rumours of another coup yesterday, possibly mounted by opponents of the new constitution (http://www.bangkokpost.com/topstories/topstories.php?id=121032). It caused the stock market to go down another 3%. Chief of the junta General Sonthi Boonyaratakalin has denied the coup rumours (http://etna.mcot.net/query.php?nid=31196), which means it be time to take them seriously. Meanwhile, the junta is pondering (perhaps slowly) the lessons to be learned from the unexpectedly slim majority for their constitution (http://www.bangkokpost.com/News/22Aug2007_news00.php).

Heavy rains and flash floods are affecting seven provinces in the deep south (http://www.nationmultimedia.com/breakingnews/read.php?newsid=30046026).
